In co-operation with certain professional associations and insurance brokers, the Health Law Group at Bell Temple LLP is available to provide eligible health professionals with free summary, preventative legal advice pertaining to professional conduct issues that could result in College complaints or malpractice actions.

On this page you will be asked to provide information to confirm your eligibility for a pro bono legal consultation with the Bell Temple LLP Health Law Group. You will also be directed to general information pertaining to legal issues that commonly arise for regulated health professionals. If, after reviewing this information on this webpage, you still have legal questions, a member of the Health Law Team will be pleased to contact you for a follow-up discussion of up to 30 minutes duration. The service is confidential.

If your question relates to laws of a province other than Ontario, we will be pleased to direct you to an appropriate lawyer in your jurisdiction who is affiliated with the pro bono program.

If your concern falls outside our practice area (professional practice and regulatory matters), you may wish to contact the Law Society of Ontario’s Referral Service, which will connect you with a lawyer offering a free 30-minute consultation in an area of law of your choosing: https://www.lsuc.on.ca/lsrs/

If you have received formal notice of a lawsuit or a complaint, it is important that you call your insurance broker immediately. A call to our office is not sufficient to meet the obligations under your insurance policy to give notice to your insurer. Formal notice of a complaint or legal action may trigger coverage under your policy, in which case you will want to confirm the applicable terms and retain experienced legal counsel to represent you. We will be pleased to provide you with information on this process.

The Health Law Group at Bell Temple LLP has over 25 years professional experience in defending health professionals at all levels of Court in Ontario, as well as before the regulatory Colleges and various administrative tribunals in the province including the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario and the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board.
